Both Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk soccer teams seem to be hitting their strides as the calendar turns to May. The Golden Hawk boys won their fourth consecutive contest Friday, taking down the Maquoketa Cardinals 3-1. Mid-Prairie led 2-0 at half and each team found the back of the net after break. Owen Trimpe led the Golden Hawks with a pair of goals, Tucker Miller had the third. Dylan Henry and Noah Ford each had an assist. Joe Hall had three saves in goal. After the match, Tucker Miller joined KCII Sports to talk about his goal and the team’s overall play. “I was working really hard all night and they found me in the box and I just had to do what I had to do. Put it in the back of the net. Our teammates make it fun and it feels good to win!”
Mid-Prairie is now 7-4 this season. They are back on the pitch tonight when Regina visits Wellman.
The Golden Hawk girls made it three straight victories with a 2-0 shut out of Maquoketa. The Hawks got one goal in each half which was more than enough for the stout Mid-Prairie defense. Elise Gingerich and Zoey Curtiss each scored. Kina Miller and Niva Helmuth combined for six saves and a clean sheet. After the match, captains Kina Miller and Paityn Jennings joined KCII Sports to talk about the win. Jennings said, “We were looking to play the ball to our teammates and find the best opportunity. A shut out is a big motivation, it gets the team going. Try harder to maintain the win.”
Miller added, “We had good runs, we just didn’t have shots on goal. We just needed to work on the shots. It made it a lot more comfortable on defense, knowing that we didn’t have to push much because we were up two.”
Mid-Prairie is now 8-3 this year as they travel to Regina Monday.
