A number of area golf teams competed Friday to wrap up their week. The Keota Eagles were runner-up in the team standings at the Iowa Valley Invitational in Marengo, posting a team score of 162 strokes that was only 15 behind winner Montezuma. Senior Caden Sprouse and junior Sawyer Stout finished tied for seventh overall by each shooting a four-over-par 40 on nine holes.
Keota junior Cole Kindred and sophomore Billie Kindred each shot 41 to tie for 13th, while senior Carsin Kindred was only a stroke behind in 16th place. Eagle senior Aidan Anderson added a 50 for Keota, which hosts their annual 18-hole tournament later today. The Lone Tree Lions also competed at Marengo and were led by Braden Viers shooting a 48. Domonic Graap added a 50, while Lukas Furhmeister fired a 51.
Winfield-Mount Union saw both teams defeated in an 18-hole competition Friday at New London. The Wolf boys’ team score of 381 was only five strokes behind the Tigers, while the WMU girls shot 448 and finished 89 behind New London. Boys’ junior Carter Loyd paced the Wolves by shooting a 14-over 86, while sophomore Jake Edwards finished with a 96 and senior Andrew Brown posted a 99. Senior Alli Humphreys led the WMU girls with a 105 and classmate Anna Anderson was three strokes behind. Winfield-Mount Union and New London will next compete Wednesday at this year’s Southeast Iowa Super Conference Championships in Wapello.
