Initial work began yesterday on a section of Highway 1 in Fairfield. While construction continues, Main Street will be closed to through traffic from Libertyville Road to Fillmore Avenue.

The project will widen the stretch of road, adding an extra lane along with a curb and gutter. It will also add a roundabout where Highway 1 intersects with Libertyville Road. The project has been divided into 7 stages, with stage 1 expected to begin in a few weeks.

Road work in this area is anticipated to continue through the calendar year. Motorists will still have access to Libertyville Road, with an additional detour route on West Burlington Avenue and the 34 bypass. Residents with properties along the closed section of the road will have limited access.
