The Washington Demons have earned back-to-back victories in girls’ soccer after they cruised past Fairfield 8-0 at home Monday. The high winds didn’t dissuade the Demons, as senior Alex Murphy got the scoring started in the 11th minute and junior Audrey Anderson found the back of the net on a feed from classmate Giselle Marcelino six minutes later.
Having recently returned from injury, Marcelino played like the all-conference talent she is, using the gusty conditions to her advantage for a stellar chip-shot goal in the 36th minute. Washington would go on to more than double their halftime lead thanks to both Marcelino and Murphy scoring twice more to complete separate hat tricks, while Demon freshman Angie Anderson also scored her fifth goal of the season
The back-to-back wins mean Washington improves to 4-4 in the Southeast Conference and 8-4 overall. The Demons return to the pitch tomorrow to face Keokuk.
