League Gold is on the line tonight for area schools with three conference championship track meets around eastern Iowa. At historic Case Field, the Washington Demon boys and girls will host the Southeast Conference Championships. Both teams of Demons last competed Monday at Fairfield. The boys were meet team champs with 137 points. Event winners included Micah Rees in the mile, Brayden Hartman in the discus and Aidan Ulin in the 100. The Washington boys are the two-time defending Southeast Conference champs, last year scoring 204 points to claim the crown. The Demon girls were second in Fairfield with Grace Voss taking high jump, Lauren Horak the 800, Leighton Messinger the 100 hurdles and Iris Dahl the 1500. The Washington girls were third a year ago in this event with 101 points. Mt. Pleasant is the defending champion. Both Washington teams will be joined tonight by Mt. Pleasant, Fairfield, Burlington, Fort Madison and Keokuk. Action gets underway with field events at 4:30 at Case Field in Washington.
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks will trek north to Tipton for the River Valley Championships tonight. The Golden Hawk girls are the two-time defending RVC champs, winning the 2022 crown by 62 points. The Hawks were last in action Monday at Highland where they won the team title with 168 points. Eight events won championships for Mid-Prairie including Ella Groenewold in high jump, Greta Sieren in the 400, Abby Fleming in the 1500, Danielle Hostetler in the 3000, the shuttle hurdle of Amara Jones, Emily Schlabach, Behla Schmidt and Sophie Miller, the 4×100 with Madeline Schrader, Nevaeh Decker, Jovi Evans and Dakota Mitchell, the sprint medley with Schrader, Decker, Jovi and Tabitha Evans and the distance med with Schrader, Jones, Jovi Evans and Hostetler. The Mid-Prairie boys were also the big winners at Highland with 121 points including seven event titles. Jayden Stafford won the wheelchair 100 and 400, the 4×100 team of Drake Price, Landon Sullivan, Hudson Ehrenfelt, and Irman Ganibegovic, the 4×200 team of Ganibegovic, Kaden Kos, Peyton Fox and Brady Weber, the 4×800 with Emmett Swartzentruber, Preston Yutzy, Jacob Donaldson and Thomas Flynn and the shuttle hurdle with Landry Gingerich, Kaden Meader Grady Gingerich and Braden Hartley were all winners. Mid-Prairie is joined tonight at Tipton City Park by Anamosa, Dyersville-Beckman, Bellevue, Camanche, Cascade, Durant, Maquoketa, Monticello, Northeast Goose Lake, Iowa City Regina, West Branch, West Liberty, Wilton and the home Tigers. Action starts tonight with field events at 4:30p.m.
Exciting action will be on the oval under the lights at Roth Field in Wayland tonight when the WACO Warriors host the Southeast Iowa Superconference Championships, including six KCII area schools. The Hillcrest Academy Ravens last ran a week ago at WACO for the Eckstrand Relays. The Raven boys had scoring events with Jesse Blossom in the 800 and the distance medley, sprint medley and 4×100 with the team of Mason Bender, Isaac Birkey, Bryce Bailey and Blossom. The Raven girls got points from Delaney Shaw runner-up in the 400 and third in long jump.
The Highland Huskies celebrated senior night Monday with their home meet. The girls were fifth in the team race with Sarah Burton winning long jump gold. The Huskies had the best area girls finish at this event a year ago, placing fifth in the north. The Highland boys got points at home Monday from the sprint medley of Brendan Schnoebelen, Owen Fox, Elvin Hernandez and Brayden Zyvwiec and the 4×1 of Knox, Hernandez, Jackson Schneider and Schnoebelen.
Lone Tree was also at Highland Monday. The Lady Lions placed third as a team with event titles from Ava Christofferson in the 100, Rylee Shield in the 200 and the 4×2 team of Avery Morarie, Shield, Vivian Zaruba and Christofferson. The Lone Tree boys were seventh as Mayson Hemsted won the 100.
The Columbus Wildcats hosted their home relays on Monday. The Columbus boys ran away with the team championship and had eight event winners. Kaden Amigon took the 100, 200 and long jump, Triston Miller won the 110 hurdles and high jump. Cael Phillips was the 3200m winner, Cole Storm claimed the 800 and Russell Coil the discus. The Wildcats were also were the 4×1, 4×4 and shuttle hurdle champs. The Columbus boys had the top area finish in the conference a season ago, placing second in the north as a team. The Wildcat girls were fourth at their home meet Monday. Naveiah Garza won the 400 and high jump. The Wildcat 4×100 team also won the event title.
The Winfield-Mt. Union boys and girls were last on the oval a week ago at Eckstrand. The Wolves were boys runners-up led by championships for Kohlby Newsom in the mile, the 4×800 team of Bowen Thomsen, Jacob Nelson, Jaiden Beeding and Alex Venzor and the distance med with Eli Miller, Abram Edwards, Ty Scorpil and Newsom. The Lady Wolves were sixth with wins for Keetyn Townsley in the 100 hurdles and the shuttle hurdle with Josie Nelson, Keyreanna Sharar, Tessa Huston and Townsley.
The home WACO Warriors ran last at Highland Monday. The Warrior boys were sixth, highlighted by Simeon Reichenbach’s win in the 110 hurdles. The WACO girls placed eighth with third place finishes for Zoey Dennler in the 400 hurdles, Jocelyn Fulton in the shot put and the shuttle hurdle team. These six area schools will be joined tonight by Louisa-Muscatine, Pekin, Wapello, Central Lee, Danville, Holy Trinity, Mediapolis, New London, Burlington Notre Dame, Van Buren and West Burlington. Action starts with field events at 4p.m. at Roth Field in Wayland.
