The Washington City Council heard from Samantha Meyer, Main Street Washington Executive Director at their meeting on Tuesday. Meyer was there to ask the council to approve a Downtown Investment Grant for Greiner Buildings. There were questions from the council in regards to what the grant money would actually be used for since Greiner Buildings is having to do almost a complete renovation of the building following the fire that occurred in November. Meyer explained, “Support for them still rebuilding downtown because we absolutely don’t want them to abandon that building, and if insurance allows them to go somewhere else, we don’t want them to go somewhere else either. They would really like to do that second-story addition. We want you downtown; we want you here.” The Council awarded the grant to Greiner Buildings with some adjustments made to the language of the contract with a focus on what the funds can be used for. The grant was in the amount of $50,000.
