It was a conference road split for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk soccer teams Friday. The Mid-Prairie girls were a 2-1 winner over Northeast Goose Lake. The contest was a scoreless stalemate at half. The Hawks broke through in the 49th minute when Amara Jones got the first of her two goals to make it 1-0 Mid-Prairie. Northeast answered with a tally of their own in the 62nd to equalize, before Jones struck once more in the 69th minute for what would prove to be the game winner. Mid-Prairie had 24 total shots, 16 on goal and a pair of corner kicks. Sophia Baker and Elise Gingerich each had an assist while Kina Miller did work in goal, stopping 10 Rebel shots. The win moves Mid-Prairie to 9-5 this year, Northeast is 3-10. The Golden Hawks return to the pitch Thursday when they travel to rival Washington.
The Mid-Prairie boys dropped an 8-3 decision at Prince of Peace Friday. The offensive fireworks started early with the Irish leading the Hawks 3-2 at half. The firepower continued for Prince of Peace after intermission, scoring five more goals as the Golden Hawks slowed down with just one. The Irish had 30 shots to Mid-Prairie’s 16, won shots on goal 20-11 and corner kicks 10-6. Marcus Blount was a force for Prince of Peace finishing with four goals and two assists. Eric Berry had 15 saves for the Irish. Mid-Prairie got one goal each from Owen Trimpe, Noah Ford and Hugo Banuelos. The Hawks had one assist each from Luke Traetow, Daniel Rodgers and Grady Miller. Andrew Kaufman had five saves. Mid-Prairie falls to 7-6 with the loss, the Irish are now 9-6. The Hawks are on the road Monday against Cascade.
