Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Mike Naig, reminds eligible farm owners to apply for the 2023 Century and Heritage Farm Program by June 1.
The Century and Heritage Farm Program was created by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation to recognize families who have owned their farms for 100 years and 150 years respectively. It also serves to honor the strength and resiliency of Iowa’s multi-generational farm families. Special ceremonies recognizing the Century and Heritage Farm families will be held at the Iowa State Fair in August.
Since 1976, 27 area farms have received one of two distinctions, including five in Washington County, seven in Keokuk County, five in Johnson County, four in Henry County, three in Jefferson County, two in Iowa County, and one in Louisa County. More than 20,000 farms across the state have been recognized.
