Governor Kim Reynolds was in Washington yesterday to sign House File 424 into law. The event took place at Washington County Hospitals and Clinics, with around fifty people in attendance to witness the event. This is what the Governor had to say about the bill, “Really Washington County Hospitals and Clinics is really a model I think of the kind of high-quality rural healthcare that every Iowa county needs and deserves. And so, with that in mind, it’s really hard to imagine a better place for us to sign house file 424. And it really is an important bill that safely expands access to care by making it easier for physician assistants to practice in our state.” The bill allows for the practice of certain physician assistants without supervision by a physician. This bill will help address the workforce shortage of healthcare workers across the state. The bill was passed in the House with a vote of 88 to 6.
