The Keota Eagles and Winfield-Mount Union Wolves have qualified for the next round of the high school golf postseason, with both teams moving on from the sectional tournaments they played in yesterday.

Keota was the team champion at Prairie Knolls Country Club in North Mahaska, posting a score of 327 strokes and finishing 19 ahead of the hosting Warhawks. Eagle junior Cole Kindred was the individual tournament champion as well, shooting a five-over-par 77, while sophomore teammate Billie Kindred was the runner-up by a single stroke.

Keota junior Sawyer Stout finished sixth by shooting an 83, while senior Caden Sprouse rounded out the top 10 with an 89. It’s the second straight year with a team sectional title for the Eagles, who will next head to Crestwood Hills Golf Course in Anita for districts.

Winfield-Mount Union was third in the team standings at the sectional meet at Heritage Oaks Golf & Country Club, but because the host Wapello automatically advances, the Wolves move on to districts for making the next top two. Junior Carter Loyd paced WMU and finished tied for sixth overall by firing an 89, while senior Andrew Brown and freshman Nick Sparrow were tied for ninth after each shot 91.

Two other individual golfers from the area qualified for districts. Columbus senior Grant Watson was fifth overall with an 87 but had the best score from a player on a non-qualifying team. Highland junior Peyton Yeggy had the next best after finishing 11th overall with a 92. Both will join Winfield-Mount Union at districts Monday at Brown Deer Golf Club in Corralville.
