Saturday, May 13 has the makings to be a busy day in Kalona. Residents, as well as visitors, will have several opportunities for food and fun.
The morning’s activities include the Kalona Rotary Omelet Breakfast from 6:45-10:30 a.m. The meal will be held at the Kalona United Methodist Church and is available for a free-will donation. All proceeds from the breakfast are going towards the Dolly Parton Imagination Library Program.
At 9 a.m. the Mother’s Day Farmers Market begins on 5th Street in Downtown Kalona. It is the first farmers market of the season, and features live music, food, plants, and crafts. All are welcome to attend, with a special activity for kids, sponsored by Kalona Chocolates. Director for the Kalona Chamber of Commerce, Tonia Poole, explains, “they are inviting kids to come and make hand-made cards for mothers, and will even have a gift to go and take home for mom”. The farmers market runs until 1 p.m.
Also beginning at 9 a.m. is the JK Creative Wood 25th Anniversary Open House. The business will be open until 5 p.m. with hayrides, woodshop demonstrations, refreshments, and 25% off all items.
An action-packed Saturday in Kalona is capped off by a Mother’s Day Meal at Miller Homestead Cooking from 4-7 p.m. The meal includes fried chicken and all the trimmings for $16 dollars. Reservations are required.
