The Columbus Wildcat boys’ soccer team was felled in the semifinals of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference Tournament, losing a 1-0 battle with Mediapolis Friday. The game’s lone goal belonged to Mediapolis sophomore Lance Ludens, and despite Columbus senior Jacob Haines making seven saves, that first-half tally was enough to give the Bulldogs the victory.
The Wildcats’ 4-game winning streak comes to an end, as Columbus finishes the regular season with a 7-8 record. Next up for the Wildcats is the high school soccer playoffs. Columbus starts the Class 1A Substate 5 tournament led by 17 goals from junior Fernando Erazo, while their defense has stiffened in the second half of the season, allowing only 10 goals in the last 12 matches. The postseason starts by hosting Wapello tonight.
