The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls golf team breezed through the opening round of the postseason Friday, winning the team championship at the Class 2A Regional in Kalona. The Golden Hawks shot a front nine 176 and 374 in total as a team, both school records. Four Hawks finished in the top six and five in the top 10 individually. Kylie Reinier led Mid-Prairie with a personal best round of 89, highlighted by a front-nine 41. Other cards for the Hawks included Gabi Robertson 92, Elliot Debler 96, with a front nine PR of 43, Addison English 97, Madi Davidson 98 and Alexa Huber 103. After the meet, Reinier, Debler and the rest of the Golden Hawks spoke with KCII Sports about their day’s individually, the team’s play and the win.
Reinier said, “It feels really good because I got a PR on both my nine holes and 18-holes. Everything was just blending together so smoothly. It felt like I was doing really good. I don’t know if any of us where expect that low (for a team score). I feel like we just have a really good relationship with each other.”
Debler said, “It felt really nice. It felt like I was doing great!”
Alexa Huber added, “For coach to say that he hasn’t had a team do that in how many years…it just feels good.”
Gabi Robertson said, “On the front nine we shot 176 and he (Coach Tracy McArtor) has never had a team in the 170s so, it’s kind of cool to break all those records. We’re all very consistent at lower numbers than most teams. All six of us are pretty consistent.”
Madi Davidson stated, “It feels like we are all on the same page, and we have multiple people that can do well when someone is having a bad day, we have someone to back them up.”
Mid-Prairie is now 34-6 this season. They travel to Williamsburg Wednesday for the Class 2A Regional Finals and a chance to qualify for state for the second straight season. Action Wednesday begins at 10a.m. at Stone Creek Golf Club.
