The first international film festival to be held in Washington has a total of 61 independent filmmakers that have submitted films to be exhibited. The inaugural Farm to Film Fest will be held this weekend,  May 20-21st, in Washington. Films will be shown at venues within walking distance of the downtown square. The venues include The Washington City Hall Chambers, Patricia’s Room in Dodici Shop, The Washington Public Library, Art Domestique, and the State Theater. KCII News spoke with one of the festival coordinators, Nancy Rash, to learn more about the festival, “What it is is two days of films, and these are not films that you are going to see in the theater. They could be short, one or two minutes. They could be an hour an hour and a half film. But these are films that independent filmmakers have made; they want to get out there and get some exposure. They could be documentaries; they could be animated. We have categories for student made, women made, made in Iowa. So there’s just a huge variety of films.” Local film historian Michael Zahs will begin the festival with a presentation the morning of May 20th. Participants can view a diverse array of film genres throughout the weekend. Awards and certificates will be given for each category.
