With summer right around the corner, Lake Darling State Park is geared up for a season full of fun and recreation.

Camping continues to pick up both at the campgrounds, as well as their cabins. Shower facilities at the park opened in April. As Black Crappies begin to spawn, fishing and boating are becoming equally popular. Boats will be available for rental from the Friends of Lake Darling beginning Memorial Day Weekend.

While the trails are open year-round, Park Ranger, Zach Haworth, spoke to KCII about a project in the works that will add more areas for guests to enjoy this summer. “We are just finishing up a project to add about another 1/3 of a mile of paved trails that will connect the entire paved trails system to the east end of the park, so we’re looking forward to seeing that project through to completion. But there’s just opportunities for recreation for everybody out there no matter which discipline somebody chooses to explore.”

Those planning a trip to Lake Darling State Park are reminded to be aware of the construction project on Highway 78. Motorists are only able to access the park from the east while Phase 1 continues until approximately late June. Once Phase 2 gets underway, the park must be entered from the west.
