State Auditor, Rob Sand, announced last week that fifteen Iowa school districts were awarded funds from the Clean School Bus Program.

A combined $11,515,000 will be distributed to these districts, including the Sigourney Community School District. Sigourney is receiving $30,000 to replace one of their existing buses. Thirty-two buses overall are slated to be replaced in the first round of funding.

Auditor Sand is now encouraging Iowa school districts to apply for the second round of funding, which will provide an estimated $400 million in competitive grants for clean and zero-emissions school buses. The deadline to submit an application is Tuesday, August 22.

The Clean School Bus Program was established by the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The program will provide $5 billion over the next five years to replace existing school buses with clean and zero emissions models that cost less to operate. School officials interested in learning more about the program may email questions to cleanschoolbus@epa.gov.
