It was a prosperous weekend in Des Moines for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls track teams at the 2023 state championships. The teams combined to send 27 events to Drake Stadium to compete. The Golden Hawk girls saw their string of consecutive 2A state team titles end at four, but still finished as runners-up with 49 points. Van Meter won the championship with 71. Mid-Prairie scored two event championships with Danielle Hostetler winning state in the 3000 with a time of 10:20.73 and the 4×200 team of Madeline Schrader, Nevaeh Decker, and Jovi and Tabitha Evans as champs in 1:44.49.
Other top Mid-Prairie finishes included the 2A runner-up 4×100 of Schrader, Decker, Evans and Evans, second for the distance medley of Schrader, Amara Jones, Jovi Evans and Hostetler, third for the sprint medley with Schrader, Decker, Evans and Evans, third for Hostetler in the 1500, she was also eighth in the 800, ninth for Tabitha Evans in the 200, 10th for Ella Groenewold in high jump, 12th for the shuttle hurdle team of Jones, Olivia Schlabach, Behla Schmidt and Sophie Miller, 16th for Greta Sieren in the quarter mile, 17th for Abby Fleming in the 3000, 20th for Emma Lueck in long jump, 21st for Fleming in the 1500, 23rd for Nevaeh Decker in the 100m dash and for the 4×800 team of Annika Poll, Rebekah Wallington, Kali Miller and Sieren and 24th for Sieren in the 800.
For the Mid-Prairie boys, Jayden Stafford swept the Saturday wheelchair race championships, winning the 100 in 17.56 seconds, the 200 in 32.81 seconds and the 400 in 1:05.12. Other top finishes included Jayse Yoder eighth in the half mile in 1:58.68, Emmett Swartzentruber 10th in the two mile, Landon Sullivan 10th in the long jump, Blake Creed 14th in the mile and Jayse Yoder 19th in the same race.
