The No. 2 in Class 2A Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team scored their first conference win of the season Friday, taking down rival Iowa City Regina on the road 10-5. Mid-Prairie grabbed an early lead with a single run in the second and took control in the third, pushing across nine runs in the frame to open a 10-0 advantage. Regina staved off the mercy rule with a tally in the bottom of the fifth and scored two each in the sixth and seventh innings with the contest out of reach.
The Golden Hawks pounded out 11 hits, all singles, drew six walks, and were hit four times by pitches. It was a three hit night for junior Dylan Henry who also drove in two. Camron Pickard and Collin Miller each had a pair of knocks, Pickard an RBI. Joe Hall had two driven in and Alex Bean knocked in a run. Brock Harland got the win on the mound, going four and two thirds, giving up four hits, one unearned run and striking out three. Henry finished the final two and a third out of the pen. The Golden Hawks are now 2-1 this season with a home date against Monticello tonight at Paul N. Bailey Field in Wellman.
