The 2023 State Track and Field Meet in Des Moines at Drake Stadium came to a close on Saturday. In class 3A for Washington, Brayden Hartman was 2nd place in shot put. Josh Anderson placed 2nd in Wheelchair 100, 3rd in the wheelchair 800, and 4th in both the wheelchair 200 and 400. The top finishers for Washington Girls were Grace Voss in 7th place for high jump and Iris Dahl in 7th place for the 800m.
In class 2A Mid Prairie’s Jayden Stafford brought home State Championships in the wheelchair 100, 200, and 400. The Mid Prairie girls also had a successful state weekend, finishing as team runners-up. Danielle Hostetler brought home the state title for the 3000m, along with 4×200 relay of Madeline Schrader, Nevaeh Decker, Jovi Evans, and Tabitha Evans. Distance medley relay runners Schrader, Amara Jones, Evans, Hostetler took 2nd place. The 4×100 Relay of Madeline Schrader, Nevaeh Decker, Jovi Evans, Tabitha Evans took 2nd place as well. Danielle Hostetler took 3rd place with her 1500m, and the Sprint Medley Relay team of Schrader, Decker, Jovi Evans, Tabitha Evans took 3rd.
In class 1A Highland brought home a state championship in Long Jump with Sarah Burton. The Lone Tree girls took 4th place in the 4×200 Relay with runners Rylee Shield, Vivian Zaruba, Ava Christofferson and Avery Morarie, and 5th place in the 4×100 Relay with Riley Krueger, Ava Christofferson, Rylee Shield, and Vivian Zaruba.
The Columbus boys finished as team runners-up in Class 1A with 52 points. The Wildcats brought home a state championship with 110m hurdle runner Triston Miller. Second place finishers included Jeff Hoback, Riley Kaalberg, Triston Miller, Kaden Amigon with the 4×100 relay, and Triston Miller with high Jump. Third place finishers are Kaden Amigon in 200m and Long Jump, and shuttle hurdle relay team of Riley Kaalberg, Dante Zuniga, Alexander Rees and Triston Miller.
Winfield Mt Union has a State Champion with Cam Buffington for Long Jump. The Winfield-Mt. Union girls top finish came from Keetyn Townsley, 19th in the 100m hurdles. WACO had a third place finish with Odee Shtefanchuk in discuss.
