The Washington Demons capped off another stellar season of girls’ golf by claiming fourth place as a team at this year’s Class 3A state championships Thursday and Friday at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls. Washington posted a team score of 691 strokes across two 18-hole rounds, finishing 35 strokes behind champion Gilbert.

Two Demon seniors capped their careers with top-10 finishes individually. Kaylin Long shot a six-over-par 78 on day one and was just one stroke over that total in round two to earn fourth overall. Makenna Conrad followed up an 83 on Thursday with an 81 on Friday and finished in a tie for 10th.

Senior Haley Mitchell shot rounds of 93 and 90, while classmate Mallary Johnson added scores of 90 and 97 to complete the Demon scorecard. Freshman Adalyn Long and junior Maci Williams competed as well for Washington, which has a top-six finish as a team at state for at least an eighth straight season.
