The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team ran their win streak to three on Saturday with a dominant 10-2 win at West Branch. Things were back and forth early, with the Hawks scoring an unearned run in the first when Karson Grout walked and came home on an error. The Bears matched it in the bottom half. In the third, Cain Brown reached on an error and was driven in on a Dylan Henry single, only to see the Bears match the tally in their half again. From the third on, the game belonged to the Hawks. Mid-Prairie pushed across a run in the fourth when Joe Hall drove in Cam Pickard on an RBI single. Three more in the fifth with runs from Alex Bean, Pickard and Brock Harland and RBI for Harland, Hall and Blake Swart. In the sixth, four more went on the board with runs for Grout, Henry, Harland and Miller on RBI hits for Hall and Swart. Seven of the nine starters in Mid-Prairie’s lineup had at least one hit and seven of the nine scored at least one run. Hall ended three for four with three RBI. Swart, Harland and Henry each had RBI.

While things took off at the plate, the Golden Hawks got sterling performances on the mound, Henry worked four frames giving up three hits, two runs, walking one and striking out six in getting the win. In relief, Landry Gingerich went three, giving up just one hit and punching out two. On the postgame show, Golden Hawks Henry and Hall talked with KCII Sports about their days.

Henry said, “At the plate we’re looking fastball, fastball, fastball. Once we start hitting a little bit, everybody gets going. On the mound, fastball was working, definitely. Just pounding the zone. With this defense, it gives me a lot of confidence out there because I know I don’t have to strike everybody out.”

Hall added, “Coach always tells us to trust our swing and be ready first pitch. Be ready to attack the fastball.”

The win moves Mid-Prairie to 4-2 on the year, with a Tuesday doubleheader against Tipton next.
