Washington High School baseball not only opens conference play tonight, but the Demons will be trying to get their first win of the season when they host Mount Pleasant for a doubleheader you can hear on KCII.

A Friday-night loss to Solon dropped Washington to 0-3. Despite scoring 11 runs, the Demons have just a .200 batting average in the first three games. Pitching is also looking to hit its stride, as Washington has a 7.35 earned-run average as a team so far. Mount Pleasant comes in with a 1-2 record. The Demons and Panthers split their four meetings last season.

Washington softball also begins action in the Southeast Conference by hosting Mount Pleasant for a double dip tonight. The Demons have won three of their first four, thanks largely to the dynamic duo of Leighton and Bella Salazar. Freshman Leighton Salazar has seven hits and seven runs scored, while sophomore Bella leads the team with 4 runs batted in and has picked up three complete-game pitching victories.

Mount Pleasant enters at 1-4 and was swept across four games in the series last season. While the Demons and Panthers meet on the softball diamond, you can hear all the action for Washington baseball against Mount Pleasant this evening on 106.1 FM KCII, beginning with the Dino’s Pizza & Steakhouse Pregame Show at 5 o’clock.
