The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball and softball teams continue their River Valley Conference schedules today with a pair of trips to Tipton. The Golden Hawk girls are 6-1 on the season, 4-0 in conference play, after a sweep of the West Branch Bears Wednesday at Carr, Vincent, Gould Field in Kalona 25-1 in just seven total innings. The Hawks are hitting .419 as a team with 72 runs scored on 68 hits. Brenna Jehle leads the Mid-Prairie bats with 12 hits, 13 RBI and a .600 average. She is one of five Hawks hitting .400 or better and seven .300 or better. Dakota Mitchell has scored a team best 12 times. In the circle, Mid-Prairie’s team ERA is 3.65 with opponents hitting .229 against the Golden Hawk staff, including 27 total hits, 14 earned runs, five walks and 36 strikeouts. Sophomore Sydney Knebel has four wins with 30 innings of work, a .226 opponent average, 24 hits 13 runs, five walks and 35Ks.
Tipton is still searching for their first win, sitting at 0-6 for the year and in the RVC. They were shut out 10-0 by Durant last night. The Tigers have been outscored this year 58-4. They are hitting .179 as a team with 15 total hits and 40Ks. Gabrielle Paustian is the team leader at .364 with four hits, two RBI and a run scored. In the circle, the Tipton ERA is 19 in 19 innings with a .519 opponent batting average, surrendering 52 earned runs, 14 walks and striking out only three. Madison Meier has 13 innings giving up 38 hits, 24 earned runs, one walk and two Ks. These two teams met on Memorial Day with Mid-Prairie earning the sweep by a combined 23-4 score. Mid-Prairie has won 19 of the last 22 meetings between the two schools.
The Golden Hawk baseball team is 7-2 this season, and 4-0 in the River Valley. They have won five in a row including a sweep of the Tipton Tigers Tuesday in Wellman 8-6 and 3-1. The Golden Hawks are ranked No. 1 in 2A this week in the latest poll from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. Mid-Prairie is hitting .247 as a team with 48 runs on 56 hits. Karson Grout and Joe Hall are both at .400 at the plate to lead the way. Grout has a team best 12 hits and 10 runs scored, Alex Bean has a Hawk leading nine RBI. The Mid-Prairie pitching staff has a 2.71 ERA in 62 innings with a .232 opponent batting average against, giving up 24 earned runs, 29 walks and 73 strikeouts. Brock Harland and Collin Miller are both 2-0 as starters with a combined ERA under two. Cain Brown, Landry Gingerich and Brady Weber have worked a combined eight innings out of the pen without allowing a run.
Tipton is 1-5 this season and in conference play. The Tigers last contests were on Tuesday in Wellman when they were swept. Tipton is hitting .202 as a team with 23 runs scored on 20 hits. Ian Spangler is at .364 with a team best four hits and five runs scored. Davis Webb has seven RBI to lead production. The Tigers have an 8.22 team ERA in 23 frames with opponents hitting .182, giving up 25 hits, 27 earned runs, walking 33 and striking out 30. Webb leads all categories for the Tigers with nine innings of work and a 1-1 record, .140 opponent average, six hits, five runs, nine walks and 17Ks for a 2.42 ERA. Mid-Prairie has won 23 of the last 30 meetings between the two schools.
