The Washington Fire Department recently received a $17,000 donation for a new rescue boat from the Brinton Trust. The Fire Departments’ current rescue boat is around forty years old and was used as a fishing boat first. This new boat will be adapted specifically for rescue operations. Washington Fire Chief Brendan DeLong spoke about how this new boat will be an upgrade, “The rescue boats got a lot more room in it, and it’s a little bit wider. You have more room up front for people that are helping you search a pond. It’s also got holders on the side that will hold bars for sweeping the bottom of a lake. So it’s more built for that, and it’s a very shallow boat because a lot of times you’re running in really shallow water.” The Brinton Trust focuses on donating to local causes, with a set of standards in place for applicants that must meet specific community needs. Other organizations that have received funds from the Trust include Washington County Hospital and Clinics, and the Washington County Enrichment Foundation.
