The Highland Huskies cruised to a 17-1 victory over Winfield-Mount Union in softball Thursday night. Highland had the Wolves on the run from first pitch, scoring three times in the first inning and adding another four runs in the second. A 10-spot in the fourth ultimately allowed the game to end early.

Junior first baseman Payton Brun had a team-high three hits for the Huskies and also scored four runs. Junior outfielder Abigail Pierson finished with two hits and four runs batted in, while sophomore Lilly Barre added two hits, two RBI and four runs scored.

WMU senior Anna Anderson had the Wolves’ only run driven in during the third inning. Highland pitcher Jessica Kraus gave up just two total hits and struck out eight. While the Huskies are now 2-2 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North and 4-4 overall, Winfield-Mount Union drops to 1-4 in conference play and 1-5 overall.
