Hillcrest Academy Softball dropped their second in a row last night as they were met by a Highland offense with something to prove. The Huskies ended the night early, walking it off with eight runs in the third to defeat the Ravens 12-0.
Top performers for Highland at the plate included Sarah Burton, who went 2-3, scoring once and knocking in three. Abbi Stransky delivered two runs as well, rocketing a double in the opening frame and following it up with a sacrifice fly in the third. Payton Brun finished 2-2 last night, scoring all three times she reached base, including the game-winning run on a delayed steal play.
Jessica Kraus handled things from the pitcher’s circle for the Huskies, throwing three shut-out innings that included six strikeouts to just two walks. Highland improved to 5-4, facing off with Holy Trinity Catholic tonight.
The lone Hillcrest hit came off the bat of Morgyn Nafziger, who rocketed an opposite field single in the third. The Ravens threatened twice with runners in scoring position, before Kraus was able to shut the door. Kylee Statler saw her debut in the pitcher’s circle for Hillcrest, coming in for relief in the third.
The Ravens, now 3-4 on the season head to Van Buren County tonight for a battle with the Warriors.
