The Columbus Wildcats are starting to hit their stride after a 13-0 victory over Pekin in three innings Tuesday gives Columbus softball back-to-back wins and three victories in the last four games. The Wildcats raced out of the gates at home Tuesday night, scoring 10 runs in the first inning alone.
Senior infielder Sara Vela led Columbus with three hits, including a double, as well as two runs scored and two runs batted in. A triple was one of sophomore Lily Coil’s two hits on a night where she scored three runs and drove in two. Senior Victoria Howell and freshman Lizzie Gerot had two RBI each, while Coil yielded just one hit and one walk in three innings pitched for the Wildcats, who are 3-2 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North and 4-4 overall.
