Winfield-Mount Union softball used a late surge to knock off New London 8-4 Wednesday night. After both teams scored a run in the first inning, New London took a 3-1 lead after the second. But the Wolves rallied to scored the next six runs and never looked back.

Sophomore outfielder Josie Nelson was dynamite in the lead-off spot for WMU, picking up two hits, three runs scored and three stolen bases. Senior catcher Anna Anderson had two hits, including a double, and three runs batted in. Freshman pitcher Quin Smith earned the complete-game victory in the circle, working around five hits and six walks allowed to help the Wolves get their second victory of the season.

Winfield-Mount Union baseball jumped out to a 5-0 lead after an inning and a half Wednesday, but New London would turn the tables and go on to win 7-5. Senior Andrew Brown, junior Cole Milks and sophomore Riley Kaalberg all had two hits and a run scored each, but the Wolves still fell to 3-3 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North and 3-5 overall.
