Winfield-Mount Union baseball rallied to win a thrilling game 6-5 over Lone Tree Tuesday night. The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth inning, when Lone Tree scored twice. When WMU tied the game up in the bottom of the inning, the Lions scored twice more in the sixth. The Wolves got within a run going into the seventh before Lone Tree scored one more time in the top half. But Winfield-Mount Union not only came back to tie the game, but three runs in the bottom of the seventh were enough for a walk-off victory.
Junior outfielder Cole Milks led WMU with two hits and two runs batted in. Senior catcher Grant Watson and sophomore Kohlby Newsom also had two hits each, while Wolves senior Andrew Brown pitched the final two-and-a-third innings to get the win on the mound, allowing two hits and a walk and striking out three.
Winfield-Mount Union improves to 3-2 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North and 3-4 overall. Lone Tree falls to 1-3 in conference play and 1-5 overall.
