The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team broke their losing streak with a statement win Thursday, taking down No. 4 in Class 2A Wilton by a 3-2 score at Carr, Vincent, Gould Field in Kalona. The Hawks jumped on top early with a run in the first. The Beavers answered with a single run in the second. Things stayed tied at one each until the fourth. Mid-Prairie put up a pair in the frame, Miller started things with a single, Hannah Sellers followed up with a base hit of her own to put two on when Olivia Swartzentruber delivered a run scoring single with two down to put Mid-Prairie back on top 3-1. The Beavers would push across one run in the top half to cut the margin in half, but Golden Hawk starter Sydney Knebel slammed the door on Wilton the rest of the night, throwing the complete game winner, allowing seven hits and striking out two. Mid-Prairie moves to 8-5 with the victory, Wilton falls to 12-5.
