One of the best rivalries in southeast Iowa sports will see the latest chapters written tonight when the Hillcrest Academy Ravens visit the Lone Tree Lions for a pair of Southeast Iowa Superconference doubleheaders. The Raven baseball team enters at 7-1 this season, looking for a bounceback after a 6-1 loss at Van Buren Wednesday. This year, Hillcrest is hitting .372 as a team with 90 runs on 77 hits. Luke Schrock is the leader with a team best .640 average, 17 runs scored and 16 hits. Rowan Miller leads in production with 17 driven in. On the mound, the Ravens have a 2.28 ERA in 46 innings with a .232 opponent average on 39 hits, 15 earned runs, 12 walks and 46 punchouts. Seth Ours, Schrock and Josiah Beachy are a combined 5-0 in 30 innings with an ERA under two.
Lone Tree enters the fray at 1-6 this year, 1-4 in the Superconference, following an 11-2 setback against their other Superconference rival Highland on Thursday. The Lions are hitting .203 as a group with 28 runs on 28 hits. Mathew Hemsted is out to a hot start, hitting a team best .368 with seven total knocks and five runs scored, all team bests. Ethan Bockelman has driven in six. The Lone Tree arms have a combined ERA of 6.11 in 37 innings with a .273 opponent average. They have given up 57 hits, 32 earned runs, 15 walks and 31 Ks. Jack Patterson has done the most work at 15 innings with a 4.77 ERA. Hillcrest has won 15 of the last 25 in the series and the two teams have split their last six.
The Raven softball team is 3-6 this season and 2-4 in Superconference play after a 13-0 loss to Columbus on Thursday. Hillcrest is hitting .295 collectively with 50 runs on 49 hits. The Ravens are led individually by Delaney Shaw at .474 with nine total hits. Kylee Statler has a team best 11 RBI and Malia Yoder has scored a team best 13 times. The Raven pitching staff has worked 40 innings with a .205 opponent average, giving up 53 hits, 52 earned runs, 55 walks and 52 strikeouts. Yoder has 39 frames completed with an 8.26 ERA.
Lone Tree is 4-6 on the season, 2-3 in league play after a shut out at the hands of the rival Highland Huskies Thursday 11-0. The Lady Lions are hitting .292 as a group with 64 runs on 59 hits. Top bat is Vivian Zaruba hitting .435 with 10 total hits and 14 runs scored, all team highs. Alex Dautremont has eight RBI to lead the team. In the circle the Lone Tree has thrown 50 innings with a .254 opponent average, giving up 71 hits, 53 earned runs, 31 walks and 49 strikeouts. Dautremont has 28 innings, a 2-3 record and 5.57 ERA. The Lady Lions have won 25 of the last 32 in the series including eight straight, with 13-1 and 5-2 victories over Hillcrest a year ago.
