The Columbus Wildcats were firing on all cylinders last night, defeating Hillcrest Academy 13-0 in five innings.

Lily Coil led the charge on both sides of the softball diamond for Columbus. The sophomore, who didn’t allow a hit until the fourth, pitched five shutout innings and struck out seven. At the plate, Coil had a game-high three hits and three runs scored, knocking in one as well. Aracely Garza did some damage from the nine-spot, going 1-2 with three RBI’s. Eight of nine Wildcats crossed the plate at least once as they notched their second-straight victory. Now 5-4, Columbus has a rematch tonight with the Wapello Arrows who bested them in the season-opener.

Back-to-back singles in the fourth from Morgyn Nafziger and Delaney Shaw, and again in the fifth from Claire Withrow and Adrianne Blauvelt tried to spark the Hillcrest offense. Columbus stood tall in the field though, shutting down both Raven scoring opportunities. Malia Yoder settled in after the Wildcats plated four in the opening frame, striking out seven while recording the loss.

Hillcrest dropped their fourth in a row, falling to 3-6. The Ravens’ busy week wraps up with a double-header in Lone Tree tonight. KCII will have live coverage of the games on AM 1380 and FM 102.5 beginning with the Jessica Yoder and Sarah Bigley with Lepic Kroeger Realtors Pregame Show at 5 and first pitch at 5:30 p.m.
