Golf runs in the family for Washington High School’s Makenna and Drew Conrad, and the brother-sister duo represented the Demons one last time Tuesday at this year’s Iowa Class 2A co-ed state championships at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames. The Conrads were tied for 14th overall in 2A after combining to shoot a best-ball, 18-hole round of 14-over-par 86. It’s the final round in the Washington career for Makenna Conrad, who finished in a tie for 10th at this year’s Class 3A girls’ state tournament, while Drew Conrad concludes his freshman season with the Demons.
Washington seniors Kaylin Long and Issac Vetter also played as a pair at co-ed state and finished with a 96. It comes on the heels of Long finishing her career with a fifth-place finish overall in 3A and helping the Demon girls finish fifth as a team at state. Vetter helped the Washington boys also win conference and sectional titles as a team this spring.
