Hillcrest Academy baseball picked up two more victories in convincing fashion Friday night, sweeping the double-header with Lone Tree. The Ravens took game one in five innings by a final score of 10-0 and followed it up with an 18-0 victory in the nightcap.
Freshman Rowan Miller made his debut on the bump, tossing five no-hit innings and striking out 11 Lions in the game one win. Seven different Ravens recorded an RBI, including Luke Schrock who led the team with two. Liam Schrock, Josiah Beachy, and Phoenix Anderson each scored twice, as Hillcrest took advantage of nine walks and two hit batters at the plate.
Hillcrest picked up right where they left off in game two, sending up 21 batters in the first, scoring sixteen. A Grant Bender grand slam propelled to the senior to a 2-3 evening, driving home five. Not to be outdone, Seth Ours added a game-high six RBI’s blasting a home run of his own in the third. Jace Rempel accounted for five more runs, scoring twice adding three RBI’s. With plenty of insurance, Ours cruised on the mound, striking out six, allowing just one hit in four innings.
Lone Tree saw two relief outings from Junior Dominic Graap, who struck out two Ravens in his four combined innings. Ethan Bockelman recorded the Lion’s one hit on the evening, as Lone Tree fell to 1-8. They travel to Burlington Notre Dame on Monday.
With the sweep, Hillcrest Academy baseball improved to 9-1 overall. After a weekend of rest, the Ravens are back at it on Monday in New London.
