The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team faced tough competition Saturday at the North Scott Lancer Invitational. Mid-Prairie fell 11-1 to Class 4A Cedar Falls in four innings. The Hawks had three hits in the contest, one each from Alex Bean, Brady Weber and Joe Hall. Bean had the lone RBI, driving in Kaden Kos. Cedar Falls swung hot sticks most of the day, pounding out 11 hits and taking advantage of five walks issued by Golden Hawk pitching. Dylan Henry took the loss for Mid-Prairie, working an inning and a third.
Mid-Prairie also came up short against Burlington Notre Dame 9-4. The game was scoreless until the third, when the Hawks pushed across one. The Nikes answered with two to wrestle the lead back. The Golden Hawks tied it with a single run in the fourth. Notre Dame went on top 6-2 with four in the fourth and added three more in the fifth. A Golden Hawk sixth inning rally was worth a pair of runs but Mid-Prairie couldn’t completely close the gap. The Golden Hawks were out hit 11-5. Cain Brown, Henry, Hall, Weber and Brock Harland each had a hit. Harland drove in a pair, Weber and Camron Pickard each knocked in one. Kos took the loss on the hill in two thirds of an inning of work. The twin setbacks drop the Hawks to 12-5 on the year ahead of a doubleheader Monday at Iowa City Regina.
