The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball and softball teams return to the diamond tonight when they make the trip to Iowa City to match up with the rival Regals in a River Valley Conference doubleheader. The Golden Hawk softballers are 8-5 on the year, 6-2 in the River Valley, after a 3-2 win over No. 4 Wilton Thursday in Kalona. This year, Mid-Prairie is hitting .388 as a team, with 101 runs on 133 hits. They are led by Sophie Miller’s .545 average and 24 hits. Brenna Jehle has a team best 17 driven in and Dakota Mitchell has scored a team high 17 times. In the circle, the Hawks have a 3.50 team ERA in 68 innings. Opponents hit .238 against them with 66 hits, 34 earned runs, 20 walks and 58 strikeouts. Sydney Knebel has worked 49 innings with a 3.14 ERA.

Iowa City Regina is 10-4 this season, and 7-1 in the RVC, after a 10-0 win over Keokuk at the Cedar Rapids Jefferson Tournament Saturday. The Regals are ranked No. 1 in this week’s Class 2A poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. They are the defending 2A state champs. The Regals are hitting .385 as a group with 99 runs on 154 hits. Dani Laughlin has a team best .604 average with 29 hits and 21 runs scored. Courtney Kessler has driven in a team high 24. Regina has a staff  ERA of 1.63 in 86 innings. Opponents hit .212 against them with 80 hits, 20 earned runs, 24 walks and 97 Ks. Ashley Webb is 5-4 with a 1.29 ERA. Regina has won 10 of the last 13 in the series with the two teams splitting the 2022 contests including a 6-1 Regal win and 2-1 Golden Hawk win.

The Mid-Prairie baseball team is 12-5 this year, 8-0 in the River Valley after dropping contests over the weekend to Cedar Falls and Burlington Notre Dame at the North Scott Lancer Invitational. The Golden Hawks were ranked No. 1 in last week’s Class 2A poll from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. Mid-Prairie is hitting .283 as a team with 98 runs on 123 hits. Karson Grout stands at .525 with 21 hits and 16 runs scored, all team highs. Alex Bean has a team best 17 driven in. The Mid-Prairie pitching staff has a 3.02 combined ERA is 113 innings. Opponents hit .230 against them with 102 hits, 49 earned runs, 57 walks and 126 strikeouts. Brock Harland, Collin Miller and Brady Weber are a combined 8-0 with an ERA under one.

Iowa City Regina is 9-10 overall this year, 7-2 in the RVC. The Regals dropped a game to Iowa City West over the weekend 7-0. This season, Regina is hitting .267 as a group with 118 runs on 128 hits. Team leaders are Danny Gavin at .417 with 25 hits and 21 runs scored. Jack Tierney has a team high 16 RBI. The Regals have a staff ERA of 3.32 in 120 innings. Opponents hit .220 against them with 109 hits, 57 earned runs, 67 walks and 125 strikeouts. The Golden Hawks beat the Regals earlier this year 10-5.
