It’s a road trip Monday for the Hillcrest Academy Raven baseball and softball teams to face the New London Tigers. The Raven boys are 9-1 on the season, 6-0 in the Southeast Iowa Superconference after rolling to a rivalry doubleheader road sweep Friday over Lone Tree by a combined 28-0 score. Hillcrest is hitting .379 as a group with 118 runs on 96 hits. Luke Schrock has a team leading .586 average with 17 hits and 19 runs scored. Rowan Miller has driven in a team high 18. The Hillcrest staff has an ERA of 1.91. Opponents hit .204 against them with 40 hits, 15 earned runs, 15 walks and 63 strikeouts. Schrock, Miller, Seth Ours and Josiah Beachy are a combined 7-0 this year in 39 innings with an ERA of 1.20.
New London is 3-9 on the year, 1-5 in the Superconference South after a 10-9 loss to West Burlington last week. The Tigers are hitting .238 together with 56 runs on 70 hits. Gavin Menke-Bailey is the leader at .353 with 12 hits and nine runs scored. Brendan Richey has driven in nine. The Tiger team ERA is 5.13 in 72 innings with an opponent average of .215, giving up 87 hits, 53 earned runs, 53 walks and 73 strikeouts. Memphis Watson is 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA. These two teams have split their last four meetings with the Tigers taking the 2022 contest 8-1.
The Hillcrest softball team is 3-8 overall and 2-6 in the Superconference after a sweep in a doubleheader at the hands of Lone Tree Friday on the road by a combined 27-4 score. Hillcrest is hitting .287 as a team with 54 runs on 64 hits. Delaney Shaw leads the way with a .415 average on 10 total hits. Malia Yoder has scored a team high 14 times and Kylee Statler has a team best 12 RBI. The Raven staff ERA is 8.43 in 54 innings with opponents hitting .209 on 75 hits, 65 earned runs, 69 walks and 67 strikeouts. Yoder has a 3-8 record in 51 innings with a 7.86 ERA.
New London is winless through their first 12 games. They were beaten 10-0 by Van Buren Saturday. The Tigers hit .159 as a group and have scored 16 runs on 23 hits. Morgan Jones has a team best .316 average with six hits. Natalie Burden has scored six runs and driven in three. Megan Lee has done all of the pitching, working 35 innings with a 14.74 ERA, giving up a .297 opponent average on 76 hits, 73 earned runs 36 walks and 11 strike outs. New London edged the Ravens last year 7-6. Baseball action begins at 5:30 this evening with softball at 7p.m. in New London.
