The Highland Huskies rolled to a pair of victories over Pekin on the diamond Tuesday night. Highland softball responded to Pekin scoring first in the opening inning by getting two runs of their own in the bottom half and scoring twice more in the third. After the Panthers scored in the fourth, the Huskies extended the lead to 7-2 in the fifth and then exploded for seven runs in the sixth to secure a 14-4 victory early.

Highland junior Abigail Pierson had a team-high three hits, including a double, and three runs batted in. Senior MyLei Smith and juniors Sarah Burton and Payton Brun came up with two hits each and combined to score six runs. Burton also drove in two for the Huskies, who improved to 6-2 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North and 10-6 overall.

Highland baseball also yielded a run in the top of the first to Pekin but came right back with five of their own in the bottom half. Seven more runs in the third powered the Huskies to a convincing 14-3 win in four innings.

Seniors Ethan Paisley and Peyton Yeggy led the way with three hits each, while Yeggy and sophomore Tyler Thompson had four RBI apiece. Thompson swatted a home run to help the Huskies move to 5-3 in conference play and 7-7 overall.
