The Hillcrest Academy Raven baseball team gave their brooms a workout Thursday, sweeping away the Pekin Panthers 9-2 in a Southeast Iowa Superconference contest in Packwood. Hillcrest had beaten Pekin 17-2 in May of this year. The rematch saw the Ravens jump on top early with a three spot in the first. Pekin answered with a tally in the home half to make the score 3-1 into the second. Both pitchers and defenses settled in and things stayed that way until the fifth when the Ravens heated up in a hurry, scoring six times in the road half, pushing their lead to 9-1. Pekin could only muster a single run in the bottom half. Hillcrest recorded eight hits on the night. Offensive leaders included the Schrocks, Luke and Liam each with two hits and a pair of runs scored. Grant Bender drove in three, Seth Ours and Phoenix Anderson each had two RBI. Ours went the distance on the hill, giving up five hits, no earned runs and punching out seven for his fourth win of the year. The victory keeps Hillcrest perfect in the Superconference at 8-0, with a 12-2 overall record. The Panthers are 4-6 and 4-13 respectively. The Ravens are back on the diamond tonight in Kalona when they host Wapello.
