Offense and defense came together Friday as Hillcrest baseball made it look easy, handling Wapello 15-0 in four innings.
Coming into the contest averaging just over 10 runs per game, the Ravens matched that by the second inning, scoring five runs in each of the first two frames. Their thirteen hits included two home runs, two doubles, and a triple. Liam Schrock continued his success in the leadoff spot, reaching safely and scoring in all three plate appearances, including his second home run of the season in the third inning. Jace Rempel also tallied his second long ball of his season and the week with a two-run shot in the first. Nine different Ravens recorded an RBI Friday night including the first of the year from both Bryce Bailey and Lawson Schrock.
With plenty of run support behind him, Rowan Miller continued his hot start on the mound. In his second start, the freshman pitcher struck out six in four innings of shutout baseball, allowing just two hits. Clean defense backed up Miller all game long, as Wapello never saw a runner advance past second base.
The two Indian hits came off the bats of Casey Short and Carson Belzer, who both finished 1-2. The offensive barrage from Hillcrest Academy handed Wapello pitcher Kaleb Huxley his first loss. Falling victim to the season sweep, Wapello is now 2-11 overall.
With their fourth consecutive win in as many days, the Ravens head into the weekend 13-2. They wrap up a busy week Saturday with the Hillcrest Classic, facing off with English Valleys at 10 a.m., followed by Keokuk Saturday afternoon. KCII will provide coverage for game two, beginning with the Jessica Yoder and Sarah Bigley with Lepic Kroeger Realtors Pregame Show at 1:30 p.m. and first pitch at 2.
