This summer, kids and families are encouraged to enjoy the wide variety of activities available at the Kalona Public Library.

Director of Youth Services for the library, Olivia Kahler, tells KCII, “The fun thing about summer at the library is that we have something every single day. At 1 o’clock in the afternoon on Mondays we play a movie in the program room. On Tuesdays we have what we call a live, or an in-person performance. Wednesdays are our 10 a.m. story time, Thursdays are another in-person program, and Fridays are our 10 a.m. toddler time.”

The Kalona Public Library kicked off their first two in-person events last week with Tribal Exoticz and Lucky Star Farm, who brought live animals for kids to interact with. A guest reader from Hills Bank led the Wednesday story time, and they even set up a bounce house on the lawn as part of Kalona Days. Future guests include magicians, jugglers, and a representative from the State Library of Des Moines who will present books and activities in braille. New to the library this summer are their Pokemon trading card days, the first scheduled for Saturday, June 24.

Events are free to attend and open to kids of all ages. To view a full calendar of events, visit the Kalona Public Library website. A weekly schedule is also available on their Facebook and Instagram pages.
