Tomorrow, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and the Southeast Iowa Agricultural Research Association are hosting a Summer Field Day. The event runs from 1-3:30 p.m. at the Southeast Research and Demonstration Farm 3115 Louisa-Washington Road in Crawfordsville.

Field Agronomist for ISU Extension, Rebecca Vittetoe, shared some of the Field Day topics with KCII. “We’ll have a research farm update from Cody Schneider who is our Farm Superintendent down there. We’ll have a grad student talking about her research project with mung beans. We’ve also got a topic on drones. We’ve got a specialist from the University of Illinois joining us. He’s going to be talking more about how we can maybe utilize that type of technology, whether it’s for spraying our crops or field mapping or just how we can take more advantage of that technology.”

Additional topics include developing tools to predict corn diseases and improve management, along with the potential for relay and double-cropping in Iowa.

Check-in for the Summer Field Day begins at 12:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and pre-registration is not required. Certified Crop Advisors can earn 1.5 Crop Management and .5 Pest Management CCA credits by attending. With questions, or for more information, contact Cody Schneider at schn145@iastate.edu.
