In one of their biggest tests this season, Hillcrest Academy baseball was unable to unlock the offense last night as they were shut out by eighth-ranked Burlington Notre Dame 6-0 at Duane Banks Field in Iowa City.

The Ravens recorded just five hits in the loss, the first not coming until fifth inning as Nike pitcher Hunter Shipley notched his team-high sixth win on the mound. The senior right-hander fanned seven Hillcrest batters before handing the ball to Caden Schwenker for the final out.

Ground-rule doubles from Liam Schrock in the sixth and Grant Bender in the seventh provided a brief spark for a Raven offense that was held in check for a majority of the game. Hillcrest stranded a total of eight base runners, however, as they failed to plate a run for the first time all year. Josiah Beachy picked up the loss, throwing all seven innings on the mound allowing nine hits and striking out one.

With the win, Burlington Notre Dame improved to 20-6. Hillcrest meanwhile dropped their third of the season. The 15-3 Ravens are back in action tonight as they travel to Winfield-Mount Union. KCII will have coverage of the game on 106.1 FM beginning with the Jessica Yoder and Sarah Bigley with Lepic Kroeger Realtors Pregame Show at 5 p.m. and first pitch at 5:30.
