Sigourney softball continues to shine, as the Savages swept a doubleheader with conference rival Keota last night. Sigourney wasted no time at the plate in the first game, scoring seven runs in the top of the first and cruising to a 15-1 victory in five innings. Savage freshman Kenzi VanDenHeuvel had a big night with the bat, putting up three hits, including a home run, and six runs batted in. Junior Erin Dawson and senior Macy Fisch each had a hit and scored three runs.

Sigourney didn’t slow down in game two, scoring 11 runs in the first inning alone and going on to win 18-0 in three innings. Junior Carly Goodwin and sophomore Josephine Moore had three runs batted in each, while Dawson and VanDenHeuvel had a hit and two RBI each. Moore pitched both games and gave up no hits over eight innings while striking out 19.

The Savages also knocked off the Eagles 7-0 in baseball last night to improve to 11-1 in the South Iowa Cedar League and 13-5 overall. Keota drops to 5-7 in conference play and 9-9 overall. Eagle softball is still winless after both losses yesterday, while Sigourney, ranked fifth in Class 1A, hasn’t lost a conference game and is 17-2 overall.

While Savage baseball is off until they face English Valleys tomorrow, softball is right back to work tonight with a doubleheader at Wilton. Both Keota teams next play against Tri-County tomorrow evening.
