An accident at the high ropes course at Langwood Education Center near Grandview has led to its temporary closure. An investigation is underway after a 46-year-old man fell from the course’s zipline element during the Langwood Adventure Day on June 3.

The man is reportedly recovering as the cause of the fall is still unknown. The course was last inspected in March, and the incident is believed to be the first of its kind since the ropes course opened in 2000.

Executive Director for the Louisa County Conservation Board, Katie Hammond, was pleased with the response from staff following the incident, however questions were raised following the emergency response. At the Louisa County Board of Supervisors meeting on June 6, it was reported that the 911 call from Langwood was routed to Muscatine rather than the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office. This, combined with other factors, led to a slower than normal response time. The Supervisors plan to meet at a later date to help resolve these issues.

KCII will have more information as it becomes official.
