U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley spoke to KCII News about PTSD Awareness Month. The Senator recently reintroduced the Fighting Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Act of 2023. Here are his thoughts. “You know, when you are in law enforcement, there’s just a lot of things you do, and sometimes it just works havoc on your brain. And you become kind of, what we used to say about World War II Veterans, shell shocked in a sense. You become less productive as a result of it. So like, if that policeman lost his life, his family would get some award from the federal government, let alone what the local government had in the way of insurance.”  The Fighting Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Act of 2023 would help police, fire, emergency medical, and 911 personnel who face long-term mental health effects as a result of providing life-saving services in moments of crisis.
