The Sigourney Savages have secured another conference championship in softball after they defeated English Valleys 8-0 last night. Three runs in the first inning set the tone, and Sigourney junior pitcher Carly Goodwin was one walk away from another perfect game while racking up 17 strikeouts to blank English Valleys.

Freshman Kenzi VanDenHeuvel hit her fourth home run of the season and put up three runs batted in as part of a two-hit night, while junior Erin Dawson led the lineup with three hits, including a double. Goodwin and sophomore Ava Fisch had two knocks and two runs scored each, while sophomore Jospehine Moore also came up with a pair of base hits to help the Savages move up to 12-0 in the South Iowa Cedar League and get the eighth-ranked team in Class 1A to 17-4 overall.

Sigourney baseball remains alive for a conference title as well after an 11-1 win over English Valleys yesterday. The Savages are 12-1 in league play and 14-5 overall. Both teams are off tonight and will play again tomorrow, with softball facing Tri-County and baseball battling Prairie City-Monroe.
