The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team ran their win streak to seven straight Thursday, beating West Liberty for the third time this week, taking down the Comets 7-3 on the road. The Hawks had swept a double header between the two schools by 3-2 and 6-3 scores in Wellman Monday. Last night, Mid-Prairie jumped up early with two runs in each of the first and second innings to build a 4-0 cushion. West Liberty got back in it with a three run third to pull within 4-3. From there, the Hawks methodically pulled away, scoring once each in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings while the pitching and defense closed the door on the Comets. Mid-Prairie had 10 hits on the night. Cain Brown was three for four with a pair of RBI and three runs scored to lead the way. Landry Gingerich also had two RBI. Dylan Henry and Camron Pickard had a pair of hits. Karson Grout, Brady Weber and Brock Harland added RBI while Alex Bean, Harland, and Collin Miller had one hit each. Bean was the winner on the mound, working six frames, giving up just two hits, a pair of earned runs and punching out 11.
The victory moves Mid-Prairie to 19-6 overall and 13-1 in the River Valley Conference and sets up a big game in Wellman Friday for the Hawks against Durant on Senior Night. A win over the Wildcats guarantees Mid-Prairie at least a share of the River Valley Conference championship. First pitch is scheduled for 7p.m. at Paul N. Bailey Field in Wellman.
