Columbus softball wasted no time breaking out the bats on Senior Night Friday, as an offensive clinic propelled the Wildcats over Hillcrest Academy 16-0 in three innings.

Columbus honored seniors, Jocelyn Fulton, Victoria Howell, and Sera Vela, who after winning two games in their freshmen year have helped lead Wildcat softball to three consecutive seasons of double-digit wins. Fulton reached base safely all three appearances, scoring once. Howell went 1-2 at the plate with an RBI while scoring twice, and Vela locked it down at first base for a Columbus defense that went error-free Friday night. The Wildcats saw additional offense from Lily Coil, who went 3-3, scored twice, and drove in three. Lizzie Gerot tacked on three RBI’s of her own as Columbus scored 13 in the second inning to surge past the Ravens.

Coil had plenty of run support as she recorded her seventh win from the pitcher’s circle. She struck out six in just three innings of work, allowing two hits in the shutout.

Claire Withrow and Delaney Shaw provided the two Hillcrest hits on the night. The Ravens nearly saw their first run cross the plate in the third, however Aracely Garza fired a laser from center field to cut down Malia Yoder for the final out of the game. Wrapping up the regular season, Hillcrest Academy will see Tri-County on Friday to kick off regional action.

Columbus, now 11-8, caps off their regular season Monday night at Highland. Their postseason begins in West Liberty on July 6.
