The Sigourney Savages kept up their stellar pace on the softball diamond by winning both games of a doubleheader with Moravia Saturday, each by a score of 11-0. After getting one run in the first inning in game one, Sigourney exploded to score seven times in the second frame en route to ending the game after three innings.
The Savages didn’t need long in game two to strike again, plating five runs in the opening inning and winning in five. Sigourney, ranked eighth in Class 1A, is now 21-4. The champions of the South Iowa Cedar League conclude conference play by facing Iowa Valley tonight.
The Keota Eagles were not as fortunate Friday night, dropping both of their games against Belle Plaine. Keota baseball got a run on the board right away in the top of the first, but the Eagles didn’t score again until the sixth, and by that time, the Plainsmen had seized control on the way to a 10-2 victory.
Junior Tanner Waterhouse had the only hit and run scored of the night for Keota, which fell to 5-8 in league action and 9-11 overall. Eagle softball also lost to Belle Plaine 12-2 Friday. Eighth-grader Maya Dalton had two hits, one run scored and one batted in, while junior Emily Sheetz hit a double on her way to scoring a run. Keota still remains winless in softball this season. Both Eagle teams are next in action tonight, hosting English Valleys
